I wonder how many everyday habits and customs are of Biblical origin?
How many American-even human, traditions are based in the Bible?
Many of today's students and teachers, lacking a familiarity with the Bible, are largely ignorant of how Biblical tradition has influenced and infused American lifestyles through the centuries.
First let's do the easy ones:Christmas! Yep, sure thing! While it may not be mentioned as such in the Bible...and likely not celebrated on the correct day, Christmas is the celebration of our Lord Jesus Christ. Being polluted over the decades with its commercialization has really tarnished it's meaning to MANY people. It's safe to say that many American families don't give one thought to the birth of our Savior ALL year round, let alone CHRISTmas. But let us celebrate year round! One day soon we will be celebrating God's birthday in His kingdom...face to face.
Hallelujah! Amen! Circumcision. While it may predate Christianity... It is an old testament Jewish custom. It is becoming less and less of a required procedure, especially here in America. Some churches still require males to go through it but there are others that do not. There is a lot of debate surrounding the legality and necessity of this practice. But it certainly should not affect your relationship with...God. (Galatians 5:2) |
